Batavia fire causes $50,000 in damage to 2 garages

A Batavia garage fire early Wednesday morning caused about $50,000 in damage, officials said.

A 911 caller reported visible smoke at 4:17 a.m. on the 1100 block of Woodland Avenue, and while firefighters were responding, a second call reported a “visible glow.”

When firefighters arrived, they found an unattached residential garage on fire.

The entire garage was engulfed in flames, and the fire had extended to a nearby garage in a yard next door, forcing fire officials to request support from six neighboring departments.

Firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to either home, and no injuries were reported.

An initial investigation estimated the damage to the structures at $30,000 and to the contents at $20,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
