Music notes: Little River Band plays Viper Alley

Classic hitmakers

Little River Band scored a string of hits in the late 1970s and 1980s with songs like “Lonesome Loser” and “Cool Change.” The band specialized in earnest, soulful pop, and it displayed a particular knack for the heart-rending ballad. More than 30 years into a career that includes 30 million records sold, the band is on the road and making a stop in Lincolnshire next week.

8 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Viper Alley, 275 Parkway Drive, Lincolnshire. Tickets start at $20. Go to viper-alley.com.

The Montrose Room, an intimate music venue inside the InterContinental Chicago O'Hare hotel, has some notable shows on tap for April and May.

Ÿ Contemporary jazz phenomenon Cindy Bradley will perform on April 20 in support of her latest record, “Hot Sauce,” which adds Latin accents to her sound.

Ÿ Alt-country singer/songwriter Jimmie Dale Gilmore has an irresistible, twangy voice that sounds like no one else. He's also a crack songwriter. He'll share the Montrose Room stage with his son, Colin, on May 11.

Ÿ Before Ralph Covert achieved fame as every preschooler's favorite pop star, he led the stellar pop band The Bad Examples. Covert and band, still going strong after more than 20 years, will perform May 12.

The Montrose Room is located inside the InterContinental Chicago O'Hare hotel, 5300 N. River Road, Rosemont. For ticket information on all shows, visit montroseroom.com.
