Palatine Scout achieves Eagle rank

Kevin Hilmer, son of Hal and Debbie Hilmer, and member of Boy Scout Troop 188, in Palatine, was officially awarded the rank of Eagle Scout by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America on Feb. 21.

Hilmer recently completed his Eagle Scout Project at the offices of The Society for the Preservation of Human Dignity (PHD) in Inverness. A counseling center dedicated to providing education and support services for women in the area of pregnancy and parenting, PHD requested that the shelving units be designed and built in three closets in its second floor office area.

Upon completion of the shelving units, Catherine Vincus, executive director of PHD, wrote, “The shelving units look grand! They will be a big help in storing our educational materials for our clients.”

Kevin Hilmer raised funds to pay for the materials and spent 70 hours planning and designing the project. He had the help of over 179 volunteer hours from the troop and community who worked cutting, painting and installing the closets shelves.
