Dundee Township welcomes visitors at the depot beginning May 11
Bikers, bladers, walkers and strollers take note: the Dundee Township Visitor’s Center, known as the depot at 319 N. River St., East Dundee, will open its doors for the season beginning May 11.
Located next to the Fox River Bicycle Trail, the depot will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays, and, new this season, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays, weather permitting.
Saturday, May 11, is also opening day for the Old Dundee Farmers Market, which is held every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the depot grounds. According to depot and Market Manager Bill Zelsdorf, East Dundee’s plans for downtown improvement projects will not affect the farmers market.
The market has become a popular spot to socialize and typically features more than 40 vendors each week selling locally grown produce (in season), bedding plants and flowers, plus honey, baked goods, soaps, antiques, jewelry and collectibles. New vendors are welcome. For more information about vendor space, call (847) 426-4307.
Run by a volunteer board of directors, the Dundee Township Visitor’s Center is a popular stop for bike trail users in need of snacks, beverages, or a restroom. It’s also home to the annual largest tomato and Great Pumpkin contests.
Depot visitors will find Dundee-themed merchandise for sale, including Fox River Trail T-shirts, depot tote bags, and Dundee history books, plus a variety of free maps and information about area restaurants, attractions, and the 60-mile Fox River Bicycle Trail.
The Dundee Township Visitor’s Center is funded with donations and booth fees from the farmers market. Friendly volunteers are available to answer questions about the area, provide dining suggestions and give directions. Visit www.dundeedepot.com or call Zelsdorf at (847) 426-4307 for information. The Visitor’s Center is also on Facebook and Twitter as Dundee Depot.
