Roadwork notice just self-promotion
Last week a letter was inserted in the front storm door of my home from the Village of Elk Grove. The letter which was signed by Mayor Johnson was actually a bulk mailing to the residents of the street where I live.
While this letter first appeared to be a piece of advertising, it was actually a notification stating that my street would be resurfaced this year. While the letter explained the timetable for the work that will be performed, it actually read more like a letter promoting all of the great things the mayor and village board do for the residents.
What surprised me most was why the mayor would want to be associated with something as routine as street maintenance, as most residents would be much more comfortable hearing this information from a more reliable source for this kind of information such as a supervisor of the project or perhaps the director of public works.
Then it occurred to me why the mayor signed this letter, this letter is campaign propaganda to try to associate the mayor with the work that the hardworking union members of the public works department perform to maintain the infrastructure of our community.
After I thought about this a little more, I realized that the mayor is doing is the same self promotion that our former state governor did when he placed the his own name on the top of the I-PASS express lanes a few years back, promoting himself with the tax payers money.
Sad to say, Elk Grove Village has a group of taxpayer supported politicians running the community not the true public servants that they claim to be.
