‘No’ voters care about Prospect Hts. too
My family has lived in Prospect Heights since 1959. My father was a well-respected founding father of our city. Not only did he work toward incorporation of our city, but also cowrote our city’s first zoning ordinance and served as both a member and chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals. Currently, four generations of my family reside here.
I am not a naysayer, nor a carpetbagger, nor any other of the pejorative and offensive labels the mayor has publicly given to those of us who oppose Home Rule. Like many who voted no, I am a resident with deep roots in Prospect Heights, who cares greatly about this community, and who has voted in favor of referendums for taxes and funding designated for specific purposes. Neither the mayor nor any member of the city council is justified in their continued public condemnation of those of us who exercised our right to vote against something we believe could be detrimental to our city.
I have serious concerns regarding the considerable amount of money expended by the city in its bid for passage of the March 20, 2012 home rule referendum. I believe that all residents, regardless of how they may have voted in the referendum, have a right to know how the mayor and city council have chosen to spend city funds. Hence, my decision to present my FOIA request as a matter of public record at the March 26, 2012 city council meeting.
