‘Pillars of Honor’ reception to honor WWII vets

A reception for World War II veterans, featuring a scale model of the National World War II Memorial, is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at The Garlands of Barrington, 1000 Garlands Lane, Barrington.

The original scale model, designed by Friedrich St. Florian of Providence, R.I., was used by former U.S. Sen. Bob Dole to present the memorial design to Congress.

The reception also includes a program honoring veterans and their families. The exhibit and event is organized by Pillars of Honor Inc., a Des Plaines-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring World War II veterans unable to travel to Washington, D.C., to see the memorial in person.

The Barrington Area Council on Aging, The Garlands of Barrington, and the Barrington Noon Rotary Club are sponsors of the reception.

Attendees’ names will also be listed in a special commemorative program. Application forms for those who would like to be included in the commemorative program are available at the BACOA office or at The Garlands.

Deadline for reservations is April 20. Call (847) 304-1996.
