District 304 board meetings viewable online

Interested in keeping an eye on the Geneva school board, but can’t make it to the meetings?

In the last two weeks, your options for catching up have tripled.

Late last month the watchdog group Geneva TaxFACTS announced it would start posting videos of the board’s meeting on its website, genevataxfacts.org.

And Tuesday, the school district announced it, too, is now posting the videos at http://vimeo.com/genevacusd304.

Geneva’s school board meetings have been recorded since October 2009, then played on cable television public access Channel 10 and on Channel 10’s stream on the City of Geneva website. But the videos were shown only at 4 p.m., and not available to watch via download (unlike Geneva City Council meetings). Furthermore, residents in the Mill Creek subdivision do not have Comcast cable television service.

The Geneva TaxFACTS members had suggested the school district post the videos online, and perhaps use the skills of students who study television production in Geneva High School’s studio to record and post the meetings.

On March 9, a TaxFACTS member requested a DVD copy of the Feb. 27 meeting via the Freedom of Information Act and, after receiving it, coded it for publication on the group’s website.

The school board will also post videos of its policy and finance committees’ meetings.
