Affordable Health Care Act and women
Recently, GOP Budget Chairman Paul Ryan launched another attempt to end Medicare. Paul Ryan’s new Republican budget will replace the Medicare guarantee with vouchers for seniors. When the voucher runs out, seniors will be left to pay any additional health care costs. While seniors pay more, the Republican budget protects tax breaks for the millionaires, billionaires and Big Oil companies.
Under Obama’s Health Care Act, these are some of the guarantees …
Ÿ Women with pre-existing conditions will soon be protected with coverage that cannot be denied. Children with pre-existing conditions are already protected.
Ÿ In 2011, the president’s law saved women on Medicare more than $1.2 billion for prescription drugs in the “doughnut hole” gap — by 2020, that gap will be completely closed.
Ÿ By 2014, health reform will completely prohibit the insurance practice of charging women more than men for the same procedure.
Ÿ Already, young women will have health coverage through their parents’ plans. In the future, even more young adults will gain coverage due to the Affordable Care Act’s reforms.
Ÿ Women have access to critical preventive care like mammograms and cervical cancer screenings. In the future, well-woman visits and domestic violence screenings will be included.
Your children and grandchildren’s future is at stake on these critical issues.
