Barrington man pleads guilty in teen sex assault case
A 20-year-old Barrington man pleaded guilty Monday to attempted criminal sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl during a July 2011 power outage.
Cook County Judge Kay Hanlon sentenced Santiago Farias-Alvarez to two years of felony sex offender probation and ordered him to register as a sex offender in exchange for his guilty plea. The class 2 felony carries a possible sentence of three to seven years in prison. Probation is available.
Hanlon also ordered Farias Alvarez have no contact with the victim and that he complete a psychological evaluation and follow any recommendations.
After the storm cut power to both their homes, Farias-Alvarez encountered the girl outside his home and invited her inside where authorities say he assaulted her, according to a Barrington police report. Defense attorney Dwight C. Adams Adams maintained that sex between his client and the girl was consensual and that their age difference prompted the charges.
At the time, Farias-Alvarez was staying with his grandfather and other family members at the grandfather’s Barrington home.
