L.Z.H.S. Winter Guard brings home tall flag title

Submitted by Eileen Pesce

Lake Zurich High School’s Winter Guard (an elite subset of the school’s color guard) recently earned the title of Tall Flag State Champions AAA Division at the Illinois Drill Team Association State Finals held in Assembly Hall recently on the University of Illinois campus.

The girls worked hard to retain their State Champion status by training throughout the summer months and hours of rehearsal each week of the school year. The work paid off with a 22 point lead over the second place team.

Filled with over-the-top energy, quality dancing and highly skilled flag maneuvers, the squad wowed the crowd and judges with their Broadway style number of “Don’t Rain on My Parade.”

The team is led by captains Tara McKee, Olivia Pesce and Hayley Banas. Team members include: Amie Hansen, Mandi Burkley, Alisa Kraft, Lexi Bonefas, Lauren Guilford, Haylie Larsen, Kelly Wacker, Rachel Spatz, Gabrielle Munoz, Claire Donahue, Rebecca Johlie, Molly Flores, Kelly Finnen, Shannon McGeever, Laurel Wenckowski, Sydney Schumacher and Amanda Buckstaff and trainer Kristin Clemens. The team is coached by Eileen Pesce and Libby Reimann.

Clinics and auditions for next season’s Lake Zurich High School Color Guard will be held at the end of April. For further information, contact coach Reimann at Libby.Reimann@LZ95.org.
