Mixed results for Benet

No. 5 Benet went 2-1 in round-robin action at a tournament in Quincy, beating Payson-Seymour 13-1 on Friday and Carrollton 14-0 on Saturday before losing 5-2 to Quincy Notre Dame. The four teams entered the weekend with a combined 26-1 record.

Kendall Duffy and Stephanie Abello both homered twice against Payson-Seymour and Maeve McGuire went deep once against Carrollton for Benet (8-1). Molly Moran (8-1) tossed a 2-hitter against Payson-Seymour and a 1-hitter against Carrollton.

Neuqua Valley 5, Andrew 3:

Winning pitcher Jamie O’Brien was 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored and struck out four as the Wildcats knocked off Andrew at the Providence Tourney. Kat Widup was 2-for-4 with a single and a double. Later Providence beat Neuqua Valley 3-1, and Neuqua defeated Glenbard West 9-5. Sydney Foran was 3-for-4 with a double, 2 RBI and a run scored for Neuqua (2-2) against Glenbard West. O’Brien was 2-for-5 and Alyssa D’Amico 2-for-2 with a double and 2 runs scored.

Glenbard West 9, Normal West 0:

Taylor Langtry (2-0) fired a two-hitter, striking out eight, for the Hilltoppers at the Providence Tourney. Jacklyn Tyburk went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI and Kelly Borneman was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored for Glenbard West (2-2).

Downers Grove North 11-14, Glenbard East 0-2:

Elaine Heflin (3-0) tossed a three-hitter, striking out 11, and Dale Ryndak (3-0) a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the No. 9 Trojans, who have yet to allow an earned run in six games. Rowan McGuire went 4-for-4 with a double in the first game and had 3 doubles in the second game, Carolyn Nojiri homered in the first game and Sam Yeager went deep twice in the second game for Downers Grove North (6-0).

Downers Grove South 11, Mahomet-Seymour 1:

The 11th-ranked Mustangs put up 9 runs in the bottom of the fourth in Champaign. Aleisha Bozek (1-3), who struck out 10 in a three-hitter, was 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, Melissa Orton 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored and Caitlyn Daly 2-for-3 with 2 RBI for Downers Grove South (3-3).

Downers Grove South 9, Urbana 0:

Katy LaCivita was 2-for-4 with a 2-run homer, double and 3 RBI for the Mustangs. Bozek was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored and winning pitcher Kelly Schmitt (2-0) struck out 10.
