Des Plaines plans for June Relay For Life

It is not too early to start planning for the 10th annual Relay For Life/Des Plaines/Park Ridge, scheduled for June 29-30, at Maine West High School, 1755 S. Wolf Road. The American Cancer Society’s signature event involves teams walking or jogging overnight while raising money through pledges.

To help kick off the event, create community awareness and gather team volunteers, a reception was held at Club Casa, Des Plaines. Mayor Martin J. Moylan was on hand to meet with local Relay For Life co-chairpersons and to sign and present a proclamation declaring the city’s support for the event that promotes the American Cancer Society’s mission of “helping people get well, stay well, find cures and fight back.”

Last year’s Relay helped raise over $82,000 with 363 participants making up 34 teams. In the past 10 years the Relay For Life/Des Plaines/Park Ridge has raised over $540,000 for the American Cancer Society’s mission of helping people get well, stay well, find cures and fight back.
