Soldier part of a strong, quiet generation

I went to the funeral of local World War II vet Robert Thomas Jackson today. He was typical of his generation: lived through the Depression, went of to fight in the war, came home, married, started a company, raised a beautiful family, helped found the Mount Prospect Park District, was a major force in getting the Prospect Golf Course up and running and lived life to the fullest.

There were few people at the funeral as most of his friends have gone before him. I got to thinking about how few there are left of that wonderful generation of people, how hard they worked and how they were all the strong, quiet type. My father-in-law and dad fit that description also.

Now what do we have? We all, myself included, are so busy “voicing” our opinions on such crucial topics as birth control, the debt, the economy, religion, women’s rights, global warming and anything else that MNBC and FOX gets us so ramped up about in very loud tones. Maybe we need to ramp it down, just go to work and set a good example for the generations that follow us like the Robert Jacksons of the world did for us.
