Lombard plans improvements to Finley Road

A two-year project to improve Finley Road in Lombard is expected to begin in late May, village officials said Friday.

The first phase of the project will start 200 feet south of Wilson and end 100 feet south of the Charles Lane intersection, officials said. Bids are expected to be awarded May 3 and work is scheduled for completion in late October.

The second phase of the project, in 2013, will cover the area between Charles Lane and Crescent Boulevard.

Improvements will include repairs to the storm and sanitary sewer mains; a new water main from Ethyl Avenue to Harding Road; replacement of roughly 10 sanitary sewer services in the right of way; partial sidewalk replacement; an expanded roadway and parkway drainage network; removal and replacement of all curbs; milling three inches of existing pavement, which will be covered with five inches of fiber reinforced concrete; replacement of driveway aprons; and new pavement markings.

Traffic adjustments will be necessary during the project, officials said.

An information meeting tentatively is scheduled for the week of April 23 but details have not been finalized.
