Consumers Credit Union wins Mundelein diversity award

A Mundelein credit union has won a diversity award from village officials, the organization announced.

Consumers Credit Union, which has a branch in Mundelein but is based in Waukegan, won a diversity award in the Business category.

The Mundelein human relations committee recognized the credit union for its outstanding community outreach program.

The diversity awards are presented each year to individuals, organizations and businesses that demonstrate strong efforts to promote, create programs and advocate for cultural awareness.

Qualifications for the award include being part of a program that recognizes diversity, demonstrates peaceful problem solving, promotes social or cultural understanding and or builds cross-cultural relations.

The program was created one year ago.

“Consumers Credit Union is both proud and honored to receive such a prestigious award from the village of Mundelein,” credit union President Sean Rathjen said. “CCU is proud to work in cooperation with businesses, organizations and individuals to promote diversity throughout the community. We look forward to continuing in the spirit of this award for years to come.”

Consumers Credit Union participates in a variety of outreach programs throughout the community. The business partners with the Father Gary Graf Immigration Center’s citizenship program, helped U.S. Rep. Robert Dold organize his first Latino Leadership Round Table and sponsored Lake County’s annual Most Influential African American banquet, among other activities.

The award was presented at the Feb. 27 village board meeting.
