GOP voter turnout was quite respectable
Sen. Dick Durbin please check your figures. It never ceases to amaze me how Sen. Durbin will jump into the political fray just to say something. His recent comment about Mitt Romney not being able to fill a stadium or get the vote out in Chicago is ludicrous based on the numbers. Overall Republicans mustered (and I am using the figures from the Daily Herald and a calculator) 917,040 votes in the most recent election of which Mitt Romney garnered 428,434 of them. Granted that the turnout was low as is typical in Illinois in a primary (unless you change the primary date for a favored son), but it still represents a respectable number.
The Democrats managed to muster only 158,276 votes in the election. I grant you this was not a presidential primary for the Democratic Party, but that kind of turnout would indicate that the Democratic Party didn’t care about who got elected.
So, Senator, sling away at the Republican Party for the Illinois turnout but start praying that the same 6-1 margin doesn’t exist in November. Otherwise you will need to become very friendly with the candidate that could not fill a football stadium.
