Traffic lights back on at Milwaukee and Route 137

Traffic signals at Milwaukee Avenue and Route 137 in Libertyville were back in service late Thursday morning after a scheduled interruption associated with a major road project that is getting under way.

The lights went out about 9 a.m. and two officers directed traffic through the busy intersection. Power to the signals was disconnected to so that cables in the area could be replaced.

Motorists should get used to delays in the area as a project to widen Milwaukee Avenue to the north and rebuild and widen the intersection has begun.

The Illinois Department of Transportation has issued a construction advisory as the inside lanes of northbound and southbound Milwaukee will be closed for two weeks beginning Friday March 30 between Adler Lane and the signal at the Libertyville fire station to the north.

The lane closures are required to install new storm sewers between current northbound and southbound lanes of Milwaukee. Weather permitting, the lanes will be reopened by April 13.
