Minor fire damages Hoffman Estates home
A Wednesday night fire in the kitchen of a Hoffman Estates residence caused about $20,000 in damage, according to fire officials.
Firefighters responded to the three-story row house on the 1900 block of Oxford Lane at 6:49 p.m. and found flames showing in the kitchen, officials said.
While searching the home, firefighters rescued a dog from the basement.
Seventeen firefighters responded to the scene, and there were no injuries reported.
Firefighters initially attacked the fire with extinguishers but completed the job with a hose line.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Wednesday night, and firefighters were unsure if the home’s smoke detectors were working.
An initial estimate of the damage to the home and its contents was $20,000.
