Hampshire splits with Belvidere
Jen Hurst threw a 3-hitter and Hampshire pounded out 17 hits to beat Belvidere 11-1 in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday. Belvidere came back and won the second game 14-2.
In Game 1, Hurst (4-0) gave up 3 hits and struck out 8 with 3 walks. Becca Vodraska (3-for-4, 3B, 2 RBI), Tiffany Bentley (2 hits, 2 RBI), Hurst (2 hits, 2 RBI), Sam Sujet (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Haley Widmayer (3-for-4, 3B) led the offense. “We had good swings, played good defense and Jen got ahead in the count and pitched well,” said Hampshire coach Ken Bram. In Game 2, the Whips (4-1) managed just 4 hits. Widmayer was the losing pitcher.
