Suburbia's Got Talent: Seth Paine students
In staging the production of “Honk! Jr.,” fourth and fifth grade students at Seth Paine Elementary School in Lake Zurich came away with more than memorizing lines.
This is the sixth year that second-grade teacher Robin Kern and parent volunteer Mary Beth Euker have directed the production, which is also designed as a teaching program that fosters character education, stage skills and teamwork.
“Honk! Jr.” is a contemporary retelling of Hans Christian Anderson's “The Ugly Duckling” with an enjoyable score.
There is no shortage of hard work involved.
Student auditions and rehearsals began in September 2011 for the performance that was staged March 2 and 3.
More than 70 students had roles in the production, along with Seth Paine Principal Cameron Shapior and physical education teacher Sandie Edwards.
