Day 2 of Supreme Court's health care arguments
The Supreme Court will continue hearing arguments over the future of the Obama administration's overhaul of the country's health care system today. Yesterday's discussion focused an obscure tax law that challengers said would make the case premature for the Supreme Court. The justices largely rejected that argument. Today the court is expected to hear an argument over the constitutionality of the individual insurance requirement — a key provision of the reforms. Full story.
Joe Walsh rips Sen. Durbin's call for hearings on NFL bounties
U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh of McHenry is calling out Sen. Dick Durbin's plan to look into National Football League bounties. Walsh called the move “political grandstanding at its finest” and questioned why lawmakers should take up the bounty scandal. Full story.
Cops: Waukegan bowling alley shooting was an inside job
A Waukegan bowling alley employee remains in stable condition after he was shot in the back by the boyfriend of his co-worker during an armed robbery outside the alley Saturday morning. The 44-year-old victim was walking to his vehicle with a deposit bag when, according to police, a 24-year-old Chicago man shot him in the back, took the money and fled. Police are calling the shooting an “inside job,” and two people have been charged. Full story.

Clear roads to start the day
Most roads around the Chicago area are clear as of early Tuesday. One rollover accident on I-290 near Route 83 is blocking two left lanes as fire and police respond to the crash and drivers with minor injuries. Arlington Heights parks plan up in the air
Arlington Heights Park District officials are trying to determine what to do about four parks they had planned on renovating after the defeat of a referendum proposal last week that would have funded the project. The plan to borrow $48 million lost by 634 votes, and officials are now considering maintaining the parks and giving up on plans to renovate them, or trying to renovate them one at a time over many years. A third option could put the referendum question, or a lesser one, back on the ballot next year. Full story.
Fertility doctor's downtown Naperville plans face opposition
A Naperville doctor who specializes in reproductive endocrinology and infertility had planned on opening a fertility clinic in downtown Naperville but is rethinking his plans after criticism from the public and city officials. Dr. Randy Morris runs a small office in Naperville and a main office in Chicago and had planned on consolidating the two in downtown Naperville. He was issued a state certificate in October but now needs city approval for parking and sign variances. Full story.
Report: Teenage girls twice as likely to talk, text while driving
A AAA report based on in-car cameras shows that teenage girls are 10 percent more likely to engage in distracted behavior while driving than males, and the girls are twice as likely to talk on a cellphone or text while behind the wheel. The study found cellphones and electronic devices are three times as likely to cause drivers to take their eyes off the road. Full story.
Bulls fail to stretch lead over Miami
With both Derrick Rose and Rip Hamilton on the sideline, the Bulls dropped last night's match versus the Denver Nuggets in a game that coach Tom Thibodeau said was not the team's “type of game.” “It was up and down, free and easy,” he said. “I thought we let our guard down, and you can't do that.” The Bulls missed a chance to move 3 games ahead in the East after Miami's loss last night.
