Greece to complete bailout legislation by April 10
ATHENS, Greece — Greece’s government spokesman says all remaining legislation needed for Athens to continue qualifying for its bailout funds will be complete by April 10.
The coalition government is racing to push through the draft bills, which include measures on taxes and opening up certain professions to more competition, ahead of early general elections.
No date has officially been set for the elections, although May 6 is considered the most likely.
Government spokesman Pantelis Kapsis said Tuesday that all parliamentary work would be completed by April 10.
The government, made up of the two main political parties, the socialists and conservatives, was appointed on a mandate of securing Greece’s second international bailout and pushing through legislation required for it. Once that is done, elections will be called.
