Elgin splits with Downers South

Monica Stockman’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning scored Anna Eckholm, who had doubled, with the game-winning run as Elgin’s softball team beat Downers Grove South 4-3 in Game 1 of a nonconference doubleheader Monday.

DGS won the second game 10-2.

Stockman also had a triple in the opener for the Maroons, Jennah Perryman scattered 6 hits and had 3 strikeouts with 1 walk in picking up the win. Kelly Bremer also drive in a run for Elgin.

In Game 2, the Mustangs got to Elgin senior Hannah Perryman (2-1) for 7 hits and 7 earned runs. She walked 5 and struck out 8 and Elgin committed 4 errors in the game. Eckholm (2B), Stockman (2-for-3), Bremer (2B), Jennah Perryman (2-for-3, HR) and Caroline Sobeski (2B) led the offense for Elgin (4-2).
