Lines at the pump as gas prices climb
As gas prices continue to rise, suburban drivers are going out of their way to save a few dollars at the pump, and the result is longer lines at some choice stations. Although the lines aren’t reaching the proportion of the 1970s, cheaper stations such as the one at the corner of Lake-Cook and Rand roads ($4.39 on Sunday) are jammed come rush hour. Some drivers are crossing county lines, enabling a savings of 10 to 20 cents per gallon. Full story.
Naperville woman who killed children appears in documentary
Marilyn Lemak, a Naperville woman who killed her three children more than 13 years ago, will be heard for the first time in a new interview shot by French filmmakers. Lemak has not spoken publicly about the 1999 killings that captured headlines and left a community in shock. In the film, Lemak says she was a “good mother,” but was seriously mentally ill. Motorcyclist, 34, killed in Wauconda crash
Police continue to investigate a Sunday evening motorcycle crash that killed a 34-year-old Chicago woman. Eva Grzegorczyk was riding on River Road in Wauconda when for an unknown reason her motorcycle left the roadway and crashed into a number of trees, officials said. A sheriff’s deputy was on the scene shortly after the crash and performed CPR on Grzegorczyk, but she later died at an area hospital. Full story.
Cops: Man impersonating officer pulled over 17-year-old girl in Barrington
Barrington police are on the lookout for a man who impersonated an officer and pulled over a 17-year-old girl last week. The man had a red flashing light on his unmarked vehicle and told the girl she was speeding. After looking at her license, he asked her to get out of the vehicle, but she declined and left unharmed. Police said the man was acting suspicious and asking personal questions during the stop. Full story.
Suburban gun shop burglaries raise security questions
After a group of burglars broke into a Des Plaines gun store and stole more than 200 weapons, police are looking at gun shop burglaries happening around the suburbs and looking for answers. While security experts say it’s the responsibility of gun shop owners to protect weapons from getting into the wrong hands, there are some who believe stricter state regulations are needed. Boy, 14, charged after using knife in weekend fight
An Aurora boy has been charged after cutting two teens with a knife during a weekend fight outside a North Aurora Popeye’s. The 14-year-old was caught more than a mile from the scene of the fight, which left three boys injured. Two of the boys were treated at an area hospital. Police said the suspect attacked the boys while they were trying to help their friend who was unable to stand after being jumped. Full story.

The warm weather of the past few weeks may seem like a pleasant dream this Monday morning as temperatures get back to normal for late March. Today’s high is 49 degrees with a low of 39 later tonight. With wind chills the air could really feel like it’s in the upper 20s so grab a coat before leaving this morning. After a chilly Monday, temperatures will warm up Tuesday with a high of 68 degrees. KU vs. OSU — UK vs. LOU
The Final Four are finally set, with many brackets busted in the process, and Saturday night will feature a showdown between rivals Kentucky and Louisville as well as a matchup between Ohio State and Kansas. Toews sits again in Hawks 6-1 loss
The good news is Jonathan Toews (concussion) skated Saturday for the sixth straight day, but with their captain still out of the lineup the Hawks got pummeled by Nashville last night 6-1. The Hawks remain in the 6th spot in the Western Conference playoff picture, while Nashville is four points ahead in the fourth spot. When asked if Toews will be back for the playoffs, Coach Joel Quenneville was less than convincing. “We’d love to see that happen, but we’ll see,” Quenneville said. “I think he’ll tell us when that time is close, and hopefully it’s soon.” Full story.
Tiger looks like Tiger in first win since 2009
For the first time in more than two years, Tiger Woods looked dominant in his classic Sunday red winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The victory was his first since the sex scandal at the end of 2009. The win has the golf-world abuzz with the Masters just two weeks away. Woods finished with a 2-under 70 and won by five shots.
