Give equal time to Obama’s verbal gaffes

I read Richard Cohen’s March 13 op-ed column attacking Sarah Palin ... again. And again the liberal press attempting to show her “lack of knowledge” because of some verbal gaffes. And they even make some up. For example, she never said, “I can see Russia from my house.” Where’s the media when this president makes some verbal gaffes? And there are quite a few.

If any other of our presidents had pronounced the Marine Corps like Marine Corpse, the mainstream media would have a field day. If any of our other presidents had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would the press ignore it? If any other of our presidents had visited Austria and made reference to the nonexistent “Austrian language,” would the press have brushed it off as a minor slip? If any other of our presidents had stated that there were 57 states in the United States, or refer to “Cinco de Cuatro” instead of Cinco de Mayo, it would be front-page headlines.

But with this president, it practically went by unnoticed.

We all make verbal gaffes as with many verbal exchanges one is thinking ahead and sometimes the tongue slips. But let a conservative woman make that same mistake, and what! The press pounces.

If Sarah Palin is so dumb, why does the press, and even now the president, still make efforts to go after her? What could they possibly be afraid of?
