Geneva History Center looking for your pocket change

Submitted by Geneva History Center

Your pocket change could win you a Kindle. Turn in a pocket change canister full of your spare change before Saturday, March 31, and your name will be entered to win a Kindle, donated by Mary Jaeger, “Pocket Change” chairwoman and Geneva History Center volunteer extraordinaire.

Jaeger collected over $46 in change in just six weeks and presented a way the community can become involved in preserving their local history. The Geneva History Center is asking the community to start collecting “Pocket Change” and donate it to the center to rebuild the trust fund.

Stop by the State Bank of Geneva by March 31 with your full canister and they will count your change and provide you with a receipt for tax purposes. All deposits will be added to the Geneva History Center Trust Fund. Your name will be put in a hat to win a Kindle. The winner will be drawn at the end of the April 10 Brown Bag Lunch, “Geneva Jeopardy.” The winner need not be present but the Geneva History Center invites you to join in a bit of fun with Geneva trivia.

If you haven’t picked up your canister yet, they have them available in the museum store which is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Geneva History Center has “Pocket Change” canisters available in hopes of having one in every kitchen in Geneva. Stop in and get yours today. The first canister collection of coins will be in March. Anyone who returns a “Pocket Change” canister with $25 or more will receive the following: a one-year membership to Geneva History Center; an opportunity to submit a family photo and biographical information to be preserved in the archives; an entry into a raffle to win a Kindle; and more.

The State Bank of Geneva has agreed to sponsor this campaign as the official coin counter. Bring your full canister to the State Bank of Geneva, 22 S. Fourth St., and they will count your coins, deposit the donation into the GHC Pocket Change account and present you with a receipt recognizing your donation for tax purposes. All names of those who return their full canister by March 31 will be entered into a drawing to win a Kindle. State Bank hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; and 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday.

All donations support the Geneva History Center and are tax deductible. Visit www.genevahistorycenter.org.
