Last Supper depiction ‘The Gathering’ in Libertyville
Submitted by David Stuart/Improv Playhouse
The Improv Playhouse, in cooperation with GreenStick Theatre Company, will produce “The Gathering,” the late Josephine Raciti Forsberg’s respectful, contemporary adaptation of the last hour of the Last Supper, directed by David Brian Stuart with assistant director Nora Broz, from Grayslake. The Gathering takes place during a Seder meal which biblical scholars agree was the last “earthly” Passover led by Jesus.
The professional cast is composed of some of the same actors from the 2011 production (in different roles) as well as several new to the Improv Playhouse/GreenStick stable. Several of the actors, including Stuart, are members of the AFTRA/SAG acting unions.
The cast of 13 is as follows: Shahab Astabraghpour of Waukegan as The Teacher, Bob Dawson of Round Lake Beach as Philip, George Elliot of Hainesville as Jude, Evan Johnson of Libertyville as James Major, Casey Karl of Libertyville as Thomas, Dale Leigh of Elgin as Peter, Scott McElroy of Zion of as Simon the Zealot, Andrew McGuire of Chicago as Andrew, Karl Newyear of Waukegan as Bartholomew, David Russell of Arlington Heights as James Minor, Egon Schein of Libertyville as Matthew, Mike Stanczak of Lindenhurst as Judas, and Jordan Yager of Hawthorn Woods as John.
Regional patrons looking for some truly excellent theater without the travel to the city have a terrific opportunity to be inspired and entertained. Performances last one hour.
“The Gathering” is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31 and April 7, and Thursday, April 5; and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 1, and Saturday, April 7. Performances will be at the Black Box Theater, 735 N. Milwaukee, Libertyville.
