N. Ind. man trapped under tree branch for 6 days

WAKARUSA, Ind. — A northern Indiana man was trapped beneath a large tree limb for six days after being knocked from a ladder while trimming a maple tree near his barn.

A nursing supervisor says 61-year-old Jim Miller of rural Wakarusa was in fair condition Wednesday at South Bend’s Memorial Hospital. Miller was discovered Tuesday afternoon at his farm about 25 miles southeast of South Bend by a neighbor who checked on him after Miller’s sister called saying she was concerned about him.

The neighbor, Paul Miller, tells The Goshen News that he saw Jim Miller lying on the ground under the branch and initially thought the worst. But he says when he called his neighbor’s name, he opened his eyes.
