Fleets for Change nets honor for Donlen
NORTHBROOK — Donlen Corp. has been named a 2012 Honors Laureate in IDG’s Computerworld Honors Program for its Fleets for Change program.
As a provider of fleet management solutions, Donlen identified a need for a change within the fleet industry and developed Fleets for Change in collaboration with Environmental Defense Fund. In recognizing Donlen, Computerworld said Fleets for Change exemplifies Donlen’s commitment to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the fleet industry.

Fleets for Change, offered at no cost to companies who join and pledge to reduce their emissions, will help transform the environmental impact of the commercial fleet industry, the company said in a release. Launched in 2010, the initiative is expected to reduce fleet emission levels of participating companies by an average of 20 percent, generating a reduction of more than 500,000 metric tonnes of greenhouse gases in the first five years.
“The transportation industry is responsible for almost 30 percent of the overall greenhouse gas emissions in the United States,” said Gary Rappeport, Donlen CEO. “Fleets for Change provides the reporting and benchmarking technology that will enable fleets to play a crucial role in a more sustainable future for all of us.”
Member companies upload their fuel usage and mpg data into a secure database, where they can then track progress against their own goals and anonymously benchmark against similar fleets with regard to vehicle type and/or class, industry, and fleet size. Current Fleets for Change companies include Coca-Cola, IBM, HP, Xerox, and Maersk, to name a few.
