Resources for Community Living to hold gala

Resources for Community Living is hosting its 14th annual gala benefit to support disabled adults, who strive to live independently in their communities.

A full evening with dinner, entertainment, auctions, raffles and other treats will be enjoyed by guests at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Medinah Banquets in Addison.

Tickets can be purchased by calling (847) 701-1554, ext. 5, or visiting www.rcl2bindependent.org.

RCL provides an array of assistance based on the needs of the individual. The organization helps adults with developmental or physical disabilities find affordable housing, locate jobs, learn necessary living skills and participate in social events. Funds raised at the event will keep these services and opportunities available to clients.

“We create an evening of fun, variety and enrichment for our gala attendees,” said Dennis Fiedler, RCL board president. “After last year’s 30 percent cut in state funding, this event is our largest fundraiser for RCL — and we rely on its success to continue critical services to our clients.”

Clients are able to reduce their personal hurdles and manage their day better through receiving these supports.

One of RCL’s clients, Anthony P., states, “I appreciate RCL helping me pay my bills, grocery shop, and taking me to doctor’s appointments.”

RCL provides regular assistance to handle routine tasks, in addition to other skill-building supports and social opportunities.

Since 1988, Resources for Community Living has provided assistance to adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities. It offers opportunities to achieve greater self-esteem, dignity and participation in all aspects of community life through individualized skill instruction and necessary support services.
