Wheeling delays discussion of housing project
The Wheeling Plan Commission has delayed discussion of a controversial proposal for housing for low income residents who may have a physical or mental disability from Thursday, March 22, to Thursday, April 12.
The hearing, which will include a request for a parking variance, the site plan and appearance review, was delayed because legal notice needed to be published for a related zoning code text amendment that would be needed, as the zoning code doesn’t cover the type of supportive services described by the petitioner, village planner Andrew Jenkins said.
PhilHaven, a 50-unit apartment complex planned for 2418 Hintz Road, was discussed for five hours on March 8. Supporters spoke of the need for supportive, independent housing in the suburbs, while residents neighboring the property expressed concerns about parking, impact on property values, flooding problems, and impact on the neighborhood.
In response, the plan was revised related to number of units, the fire line and curb cuts.
