Man to speak about $2M settlement with Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE — A man who was beaten by off-duty Milwaukee officers more than seven years ago is expected to speak about a $2 million settlement reached with the city.
Seven former officers were convicted in the October 2004 beating of Frank Jude Jr. outside an off-duty police drinking party in Milwaukee. Jude filed the civil rights lawsuit in 2006. The settlement was reached in January and finalized this month by the mayor.
Jude and his attorneys are expected to talk at a news conference Tuesday afternoon.
Common Council President Willie Hines has said if the settlement wasn’t approved by the city, the taxpayers likely would have had to pay much more during a trial.
