Man kills self while fleeing Evansville police

EVANSVILLE — Police in Evansville say a man forced his girlfriend into a truck at gunpoint and then fatally shot himself while fleeing from officers.

Police say officers responded late Monday to reports of a fight between the two when the man drove off with the woman inside the truck. WFIE-TV reports the woman jumped from the moving truck after the man shot himself and that an officer was able to stop the truck before it rolled into oncoming traffic.

Police say the woman was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
