Kenyon secures GOP nod in Kane County 16th District

Voters enabled longtime incumbent Mike Kenyon to fend off a challenge for the Republican nomination on the Kane County Board.

With all precincts reporting, Kenyon secured the nod in the 16th District with 830 votes, while Robert Sauceda, his 28-year-old opponent, had 467 votes, according to unofficial results.

Kenyon, 67, is chairman of the Kane County Republican party and is running for his third term on the board. He lives in unincorporated Kane County near South Elgin and works as a corn, soybean and dairy farmer. Sauceda, a manager at Robis Elections, lives on the west side of South Elgin.

Kenyon will face Democrat Jennifer Barconi in the general election. The 16th District includes portions of Elgin and South Elgin.
