Cibrario, Libertyville shut out Deerfield

Senior right-hander Kyle Cibrario threw 5 shutout innings, and Villanova-bound senior Nick Coutre drove in the game’s only run, as Libertyville’s baseball team blanked Deerfield 1-0 Monday.

Cibrario struck out six and didn’t walk a batter. Nate Coty earned the save.

Libertyville (1-1) scored in the fourth inning, when Kevin McQuillen doubled and scored on Coutre’s single.

Lake Zurich 5, Walther Lutheran 3: Austin Foote struck out nine and walked none in 6 shutout innings, as the Bears improved to 2-0.

Connor Clancy earned the save, getting the final two outs. Collin Roto had a double for Lake Zurich.

Lakes 1, Johnsburg 0: The Eagles got their first win, as senior Chris DeRue and junior Justin Demand dominated on the mound.

The two lefties combined to allow 2 hits. DeRue had 6 strikeouts, 1 walk and 2 hits allowed in 4 innings. Demand fired 3 no-hit innings, striking out three.

Lakes (1-1) picked up its lone run in the bottom of the first when senior Chris Hoffman tripled and scored when junior Ryan Burnett reached on an error.

Hoffman also made a diving catch in center field to stop what would have been at least a double in the top of the fifth.
