Work begins to transform empty Geneva eatery

Demolition work is going on inside the former 302 West restaurant space in downtown Geneva, preparing it to become an entertainment place.

According to the city’s economic development director and the leasing agent, the business would offer food and live music. The property’s zoning allows a restaurant.

The building, on the southwest corner of Third and State streets, has been vacant about five years. 302 West’s owner sold it after closing the restaurant in 2006. A restaurant called Tuscany Incredibly Italian occupied it for several months.

The building is 92 years old, starting its life as the State Bank of Geneva.

The leasing agent did not divulge who the business owners are, but agreed to pass on a message to them requesting comment.

Development director Ellen Divita said the lease hadn’t been signed as of a week ago.

302 West LLC owns the building.

The location is considered a prime spot, but has taken some hits this year. Kiss the Sky record store, on the northwest corner, is moving at the end of June. And the Merra-Lee Shops complex on the southeast corner, extending south on Third, closed in January after 82 years in business.
