Religious doesn’t necessarily mean upright

As I recall, Texas Gov. Rick Perry declared his entering into the Republican primaries because “God told him to.” I am tired of all those who wear God on their sleeves and just “know” that they are holier than others. They are the same as the ayatollahs and other thought police.

There was a very good reason that the framers of our Constitution separated religion from governance. Just because someone proclaims she/he is religious doesn’t mean that he or she isn’t a scoundrel, too. There have been too many times that has been true. He or she may be perfectly wonderful, but I think it is because of the person’s own set of ethics having nothing to do with religion. I think a person doing right because it is right is more honest than a person doing right because of eventual reward.
