Des Plaines Toastmaster to compete March 17 in Palatine

Romeo Gimeno of Des Plaines, winner of the March 3 Toastmasters District 30 Northwest Area 6 Table Topics contest will compete in the Northwest Division Table Topics contest, at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at Harper College, in Palatine.

Gimeno has been a Toastmaster since 1977, but only a Des Plaines Toastmasters Club member since July 2011. During the March 3 Northwest Area 6 contest, Gimeno and five other Northwest suburban contestants had to answer the question, “The world goes around in many mysterious ways. What makes your world go ‘round?”

The mission of a Toastmaster Club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth. The Des Plaines Toastmasters club meets the first, third and fifth Mondays of the month (excluding national holidays) at 7 p.m. in Room A of the Des Plaines Public Library, 1501 Ellinwood St., Des Plaines.
