Review board can’t set taxes

Many election decisions can be difficult, especially when voting for judges where we barely know anything about them except their name and political party.

In my opinion, the race for Illinois Board of (Tax) Review is about as clear and simple as any election I have seen in a long time.

Putting aside all the charges by both sides, Sean Morrison is claiming in radio ads, literature and robo calls that if elected he will “lower property taxes now.” Any voter should understand that the office Sean Morrison is running for has absolutely no power to make that happen. The board of review’s job is to make sure every appeal is fairly assessed so that they pay no more than their fair share of taxes.

The current incumbent, Dan Patlak, has got it right and understands the basic duties of his office. I’m voting for Dan Patlak and I was pleased to see that the Daily Herald has come to the same conclusion.
