A little Second Amendment parable
As Shakespeare so aptly noted, “The pen is mightier than the sword.” Indeed.
I am aghast that in the great state of Illinois anyone can wield a weapon as potent as free speech with absolutely no restrictions by the government.
It’s gotten soooo out-of-hand. People can walk around and criticize the government at will. I’m not saying this should stop. I am an ardent supporter of the First Amendment. We just need some common sense restrictions on freedom of speech. Restrictions I think everyone would agree upon; restrictions that any normal, law-abiding citizen would support.
In consideration of the above, I suggest the state of Illinois adopt the Freedom of Speech Identification Act.
Anyone wishing to exercise their God-given First Amendment rights will have to obtain a FOSID (Freedom Of Speech Identification) card. It will only cost $10 and it’s good for 10 years. What a bargain!
Simply fill out the free, downloadable questionnaire, send $10 and a picture of yourself to the state of Illinois and in 30 days you can enjoy unlimited free speech.
I don’t know how anybody could be opposed to this. It’s not like the Second Amendment, which states, “Shall not be infringed.” And we have an FOID card for firearm owners, right?
And the penalties for not having that little piece of bureaucracy?
Could be a felony. Depends. How good is your lawyer? How much time do you have to put together a defense? If you enter the wrong information on the application, that could be a felony, too. How do you prove it was an accident? Oh, and if your FOID falls out of your wallet and you take your $10,000 Holland and Holland shotgun to the range and get caught without the card ... you lose, buddy.
Hey, quit your complaining. These are reasonable restrictions.
