Will County Board slams Jackson on third airport

Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. has been slammed by the Will County Board for his promotion of a new airport south of Chicago.

The county board wants Gov. Pat Quinn to end talks with the Abraham Lincoln National Airport Commission, formed by Jackson to lead construction of the proposed airport. The board wants the governor to work with Will County officials to create an airport authority.

Board member Cory Singer, a Republican, says he pushed for Thursday’s resolution because he believes Jackson’s plan is an effort by Chicago politicians to take political control of the suburbs. Singer also points to published reports linking the financial backer of Jackson’s plan, the Canadian company SNC-Lavalin, to the Libyan government.

Jackson spokesman Rick Bryant on Thursday refused to comment on the board’s resolution.
