Former Speaker Hastert at Trine commencement
ANGOLA, Ind. — Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert will be the featured speaker at Trine University commencement in northeastern Indiana in May.
The school announced Thursday that it would award Hastert an honorary degree of public service during ceremonies at its campus in Angola on May 5.
Hastert served eight years as speaker, making him the longest-serving Republican to hold the job. He retired from Congress in 2007. Hastert is a former high school wrestling coach who served 21 years in Congress.
Last year, former Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz was the commencement speaker at Trine. A year earlier it was former Indiana basketball coach Bob Knight.
