Baker helps Lakes beat Zion-Benton
Jenna Baker scored twice, as Lakes’ girls soccer team opened its season Thursday with a 3-1 win over Zion-Benton in nonconference action.
Baker buried a penalty kick and Sarina Umlauf scored off an assist from Paige Coddington, as the Eagles built a 2-1 lead by halftime.
Baker finished a pass from Maya Schmidt in the second half.
Carmel 1, Lake Forest 0: The Corsairs notched their second straight victory in their own quad.
Northern Iowa-bound Sarah McHugh scored the game’s only goal, while Corsairs keeper Katie Larson made 6 saves for her first shutout of the season.
Hersey and Prairie Ridge played to a 0-0 tie.
On Saturday, Lake Forest plays Prairie Ridge at 10 a.m. and Carmel takes on Hersey at noon back at Carmel.
