Scheuermann a hit for Palatine
Palatine senior Eric Scheuermann didn’t have to worry about a no-hitter after giving up a single to the first hitter he faced in Thursday’s nonconference baseball game at Highland Park.
But the Giants didn’t get another hit in 5 innings off the Bradley-bound Scheuermann and he also had 2 singles as the Pirates won their opener 5-1 in six innings.
Scheuermann allowed an unearned run in the second and finished with 8 strikeouts and 3 walks as he threw 57 of his 83 pitches for strikes. Dan Jeske struck out the side in the sixth.
Kurt Becker and Jarrod Juskiewicz had RBI singles in the third and Becker and Scott Schneberger had sacrifice flies in the fourth for the Pirates.
