Milwaukee school district plans recruitment effort

MILWAUKEE — The state’s largest school district is preparing for the retirement of the baby boomers.

Milwaukee Public Schools says about 1,100 of the approximately 9,100 employees will be eligible to retire at the end of the school year.

So officials are starting a two-year employee recruitment effort. It includes a marketing campaign with a national reach, a revamped careers website and a recruitment video. Officials say all the pieces were produced by district employees to keep cost low.

The district has already received retirement notices from more than 200 employees, though more retirements are expected as employee contracts expire over the next year and a half.

The district is particularly looking for math, science, reading, bilingual, special education and Montessori teachers as well as principals.
