Hear Naval officier, FBI agent at membership meeting in Montgomery
Submitted by Aurora Navy League Council 247
The Aurora Navy League Council 247 will hold its monthly dinner meeting on Tuesday, March 20, at Grandma’s Table Restaurant, 1700 Douglas Road, Montgomery.
The Navy League is a civilian organization started by President Teddy Roosevelt to provide civilian support for the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine and Sea Cadets.
You do not need to be a member of the Navy League, or have a reservation, to attend the meeting. The public is welcome.
Two speakers will be featured this month. A short presentation during dinner will be made by Ensign Hans Lauzen, U.S. Navy, who serves on board the guided missile frigate, USS Kidd. In January 2012, Lauzen participated in the capture of Somali pirates who had taken over an Iranian fishing boat, and will talk about that capture. Lauzen is a recent graduate of the University of Southern California and grew up in Aurora. He is the son of state Sen. Chris and Sarah Lauzen of Aurora.
The after-dinner speaker will be Pablo Arayo, FBI Special Agent, assigned to the Chicago FBI Office. His talk will be on “Apprehending Fugitives Guilty of Violent Crimes by the FBI.” He has been a member of the FBI’s Violent Crimes/Fugitives Task Force for 17 years, and has developed many of the techniques he will discuss. He also will use several actual case studies in his talk.
Arayo was born in Chile, but immigrated to the U.S. with his parents when he was 2 years old. He grew up in Naperville and married his first-grade sweetheart. After graduating from North Central College, Arayo received a commission in the U.S. Navy and became a Naval Aviator flying Anti-submarine Helicopters off the USS Midway, homeported out of Atsugi, Japan. He was also a helicopter flight instructor for the Navy afterward. After his Naval Service he joined the FBI and has been given a number of special assignments, such as in New Delhi, India, on terrorism issues and in Afghanistan in 2005 where he spent 90 days working with Army Rangers. He, his wife, and three daughters live in Naperville.
A reception will begin at 5:15 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m. The cost is $17 all-inclusive. A cash bar will be available.
The Aurora Council is having a membership drive, and will pay half of the first year’s dues for new members. This is an opportunity to attend an interesting event, and determine whether you would like to join permanently. For details, call Leonard Wass at (630) 554-9386.
