Arlington Hts. mailing address leads to trouble
We have lived in our house for over 40 years. We have an Arlington Heights mailing address but are not part of the village of Arlington Heights. When we moved in, it was unincorporated Cook County. In 2004 we were annexed to Wheeling but our mailing address is still Arlington Heights. We were told
by the village of Wheeling we did not have to purchase a vehicle sticker as Wheeling does not have one.
Yesterday I was visiting the Arlington Heights library and was given a ticket for “No vehicle sticker”. I went to the police station and was told there was nothing they could do because the registration shows up as Arlington Heights.
At Arlington Heights Village Hall I was told all I could do was contest the ticket (which I did). I went to Wheeling’s village hall and was given a form letter stating I lived in Wheeling.
I do not know what will happen when I contest this ticket but I do not feel this situation was handled properly. If I lived in Arlington Heights, I’d buy my village sticker. If I can’t get an Arlington Heights library card because I do not pay taxes to the village of Arlington Heights or the Arlington Heights Library, I should not be forced to buy a village vehicle sticker.
I feel very frustrated because if I go back to the library or any place in Arlington Heights, I might get another ticket. With this thought in mind, I will probably not shop or eat or use the library in Arlington Heights as this is TOO much of a hassle to try and rectify a situation that should not have happened in the first place. Then again, maybe Arlington Heights doesn’t need the sales tax money generated from me or my family’s business.
The post office is in charge of issuing mailing addresses. We have no control over what mailing address to use. If we use Wheeling with our street address the mail ends up in Never Neverland and we end up never receiving bills.
