Wake held for Ind. officer killed in hit-and-run

CROWN POINT, Ind. — Friends and relatives of a northern Indiana correction officer killed in a hit-and-run accident gathered for a somber wake honoring her life.

The Times of Munster reports that hundreds of mourners, including police officers from as far away as New York, turned out for Sunday’s wake for 25-year-old Britney Meux at a Crown Point funeral home.

Meux died March 6 when she was struck by a sport-utility vehicle while jogging with three fellow Lake County Jail guards who were also injured. Officials have charged a northern Indiana man in the fatal collision.

Former co-worker Eboney Lacey says Meux “was a wonderful officer and a great person to be around.”

Meux’s funeral is scheduled for Monday morning at the First Baptist Church in Hammond.
