Backyard blues? Tell us about it and win!
It's not even spring yet, but we're already daydreaming about sitting on the patio, gazing at our perfectly manicured backyard, with a couple of burgers on the grill and a nice glass of wine in our hand.
OK, so our yard is not exactly perfect, far from it, actually. If you are in the same boat and your backyard is less than ideal, maybe we can assist.
The Daily Herald wants to help you get your summer on!
Part of that plan includes a backyard makeover contest. All you have to do is send us a photo of your backyard and why you think it deserves a makeover.
Tell us what kind of summer you might have if your backyard was up to snuff — from entertaining your friends, to hosting your child's graduation party, to just sitting there quietly enjoying the sunshine.
Starting May 6, for five weeks in the Home and Garden section, the Daily Herald will feature makeover suggestions for yards that have been submitted by you.
Each week, we will be offering prizes to those whose backyards have been selected.
At the end of the contest, a group of industry experts will award a variety of prizes guaranteed to spruce up your outdoor living space — from patio furniture to outdoor lighting to a pond.

In addition, make sure to check out our Food section for advice and tips on how to give that grill of yours a workout. Beginning May 9, our five-week grilling university offers recipes and advice on cooking everything from burgers to fish to pizza.
Let's start planning. Summer is almost here.
